Taking the "first post plunge"

Okay, so I want to start teaching Mallorie how to recognize and write the alphabet. She's been singing the ABC song for so long now and I think it's time to step it up a notch. I figure I'll start by introducing a letter each day(remind you of Sesame Street?), but I'm stuck at how to make it fun and exciting! Any suggestions, let me know!!

That's a great idea...I had thought about construction paper but the thought ended there! Did you make the template for the "Alligator" or did you get it from somewhere? Let me know and I'll surely give it a shot! Thanks!

Wow, love the idea of this blog Jenn! Thanks for including me! Heaven knows right now I need all the encouragement I can get, lol!

One idea I've seen is to do a letter hunt. You take a brown paper bag and you go on a "hunt" to find 5 or 10 things around the house (or wherever you are) that start with the letter of the day...thought that was cute.

Me too, Lindsey(about the encouragement)! I figured since everyone's always surfing each others blogs that we could maybe unite here and share some ideas and stuff...hopefully it catches on!

Thanks for the idea, I will definately try that one also. Anything to make it fun...for the both of us!

By the way, let me know if y'all have any e-mail addresses from friends that you want to invite that might like the blog idea.

alright, Marquesas, you totally said what I was going to say! Guess it's 'cause we worked at the same day care, lol! you can find templates on-line, but you can also just clome up with cut ideas of your own. Glueing is always good. My favorite is to cut out multi-colored little circles of construction paper, and glue them onto a cut-out fish (for the letter F) to make rainbow scales. Also, a friend of mine makes an art project of each letter by cutting out a big letter and then glueing pictures of things that start with that letter to it. That, however, involves going through alot of magazines...

I forgot to add one that might interest you all a great deal. It's www.starfall.com and I love it. It has printable books and some animated stories with fun sound. They read to you and it's colorful and entertaining... and FREE!
